Skeleton T-Shirts for Skateboard Enthusiasts

The Skateboarding Skeleton artwork has a rich history behind it. In 1977, artist VCJ created two black-and-white posters to promote Bones wheels. A year later, VCJ started working on a new project that would transform the Bones theme into a skateboarding skeleton concept.

To help make the image as realistic as possible, George, the co-founder of Powell Peralta, purchased a life-sized skeleton from a medical supply shop. VCJ named the skeleton "Rosie" and spent several hours propping and rigging it in the position of a skateboarding skeleton. The final piece, completed near the end of 1978, served as a Bones sticker and t-shirt graphic, marking the first illustration created under the new Powell Peralta brand.
