The original Steadham Spade artwork has an intriguing backstory. Shortly after his debut pro contest at Pipeline, where Steadham placed second, he then went on to finish fourth at the Midwest Melee in Nebraska. In 1985, Stacy Peralta and George Powell finally gave Steadham his own signature model, which featured a Rasta-skull graphic designed by Craig Stecyk. This artwork and the deck's unique sidecut shape helped propel Steadham's signature deck to become one of the company's best-performing models at the time. However, Steadham later expressed regret over his decision to quit the Bones Brigade team near the end of 1985.

The Powell-Peralta re-issue of this iconic deck is a close reproduction of the 1980s original. It boasts the same top and bottom graphics, shape, and concave as the classic. Manufactured in partnership with a facility in Mexico, these re-issue decks are made using U.S. hard-rock maple and glue that meets Powell-Peralta's strict specifications, ensuring they are warranted against delamination for their useful life. The shape and graphics were recreated in Santa Barbara, California, to capture the essence of the original.
